Gambling Addiction Aftercare Support

The Importance of Post-Treatment Support

Individuals that complete our residential treatment gambling-specific program find success with improved outcomes and even higher results when followed-up with gambling informed aftercare. Recovery is an ongoing process, and returning to your regular life after treatment can be a difficult adjustment. Having an aftercare plan in place upon departure will help maintain the recovery progress that has been made during their time at Algmus.

At Algmus, we work with every client to establish a written aftercare plan that serves as a guide for their post-treatment recovery. The aftercare planning starts immediately upon arrival, and will be continually reevaluated as the client progresses in their recovery.

Repairing the Damage Caused by Gambling

With 30 years of experience working with individuals and their families, we understand the magnitude of destruction caused to relationships, stressful environmental factors, financial difficulties, work-related issues, and trust issues in areas damaged by the effects and consequences of gambling disorder.

Maintaining abstinence from gambling post-treatment will require work by the individual. Our comprehensive and individualized post-treatment plans help identify and address potential triggers and provides techniques and tips on how to cope with these environmental situations.

Gambling-Specific Aftercare Helps Prevent Relapse

Though our culture is obsessed with quick fixes, sustained support is essential to long- term recovery. Data validates in the gambling setting, that the longer an individual is in treatment, the lower their chances are of relapse. However, all individuals seeking a life free of gambling must take responsibility for their recovery from demonstrating commitment to showing perseverance.

Your aftercare discharge folder will include all your medical records, clinical information collected by your primary therapist, including the relevant aftercare plan. Your aftercare plan is the blueprint necessary for your sustained sobriety.

Find Aftercare Treatment in Your Area

Algmus maintains relationships nationwide with experienced professionals. Upon their departure from our treatment center, we refer each client to a gambling-informed therapist in their home environment and to Gamblers Anonymous meetings in their area.

Our network of support is highly educated on gambling disorder and have experience working with individuals and families as they transition into their environment and surroundings.

Also included in your aftercare plan is a list of self-help resources. Self-help groups are available to support people experiencing gambling problems, as well as their loved ones. As part of the Algmus family, you are not alone.

"It has been just over five years since I spent 40 days at Algmus in Prescott. It was a very difficult time but made much simpler through the gentle coaxing, teachings, therapies and friendships provided and made through a unique understanding and shared experience of gambling addiction.

Algmus saved my life and my family. It has taken a few years to earn back the trust and respect I had lost, but I am blessed to be healthier and happier than I would have believed possible.

A special "Thank you" to the staff and crew. I am humbled by the work you do.

"My very first group meeting at Algmus,
there were about a dozen other men and women from all across the country. And one by one, every single one of them is talking about how they processed gambling, emotionally and mentally, and they took every single word verbatim out of my mouth. I didn't think I had a problem. I just thought no one else understood that I was so good at gambling. Now I'm blessed today. I have not wagered in any way, shape or form in over two years, and I'm proud of that.

"I went to Algmus in August 2021 to stop gambling, but I got so much more. I rediscovered my true self and came to understand the addicted brain and what I need to do to make it well.
If you are struggling. If you are out of control. If you just want all the craziness of chasing money and falling further and further behind, to stop, let these good people help you! They are so well trained, many former gambling addicts themselves. They know what they're doing. All of my fellows in recovery had different patterns, styles and games and yet the staff worked wonders with them all. They knew the different types we were and how to maximize treatment effectiveness. Last I heard, we were all doing great post-rehab. I know I have placed my last bet in this lifetime.
