Gambling Treatment
for Women

Individualized Gambling Treatment

At Algmus, we recognize that treatment for gambling disorder needs to be individualized, which is why we offer a female-specific focus for our female clients. Our mission is to create a safe environment for women that allows them to slow down and begin healing the effects of addictive gambling on them, their loved ones, as well as friends and employers.

The COVID-19 Pandemic has led to the sharpest ever increase in women seeking help for addiction, and over the past year, 3,005 women contacted the GamCare helpline. While both men and women can develop gambling problems, they tend to present themselves in different ways.

Gambling addiction is not something that only affects men. Being able to participate in female-focused gambling treatment can help address the process addiction of gambling, as well as any underlying mental health issues that the client may be experiencing in her life.

Inquire About the Program

Located in the mountainous town of Prescott, Arizona, Algmus is one of the only residential gambling treatment programs in the United States that treats gambling, and only gambling. Our staff-to-patient ratio is almost one-to-one, and many of our staff are in recovery from gambling disorder and therefore understand better than most about the difficulties that come with a gambling disorder.

Types of Treatment

Our 30-day+ residential gambling treatment program gently guides the disordered gambler into a place of acceptance and empowerment to make the behavioral changes needed to create a life free from gambling and other addictive behaviors. Some of our treatment modalities include:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

  • Gamblers Anonymous meetings

  • Enneagram

  • Exercise

Our experienced therapists and internationally certified gambling counselors help our clients recreate the lives that have crashed down around them, and each client receives an individualized aftercare plan upon their departure.

Beyond daily groups and frequent individual sessions with a primary therapist or counselor, clients will participate in day trips to surrounding areas like Sedona, and a fitness regimen that includes a gym membership.

"It has been just over five years since I spent 40 days at Algmus in Prescott. It was a very difficult time but made much simpler through the gentle coaxing, teachings, therapies and friendships provided and made through a unique understanding and shared experience of gambling addiction.

Algmus saved my life and my family. It has taken a few years to earn back the trust and respect I had lost, but I am blessed to be healthier and happier than I would have believed possible.

A special "Thank you" to the staff and crew. I am humbled by the work you do.

"My very first group meeting at Algmus,
there were about a dozen other men and women from all across the country. And one by one, every single one of them is talking about how they processed gambling, emotionally and mentally, and they took every single word verbatim out of my mouth. I didn't think I had a problem. I just thought no one else understood that I was so good at gambling. Now I'm blessed today. I have not wagered in any way, shape or form in over two years, and I'm proud of that.

"I went to Algmus in August 2021 to stop gambling, but I got so much more. I rediscovered my true self and came to understand the addicted brain and what I need to do to make it well.
If you are struggling. If you are out of control. If you just want all the craziness of chasing money and falling further and further behind, to stop, let these good people help you! They are so well trained, many former gambling addicts themselves. They know what they're doing. All of my fellows in recovery had different patterns, styles and games and yet the staff worked wonders with them all. They knew the different types we were and how to maximize treatment effectiveness. Last I heard, we were all doing great post-rehab. I know I have placed my last bet in this lifetime.
